Career
Kagemichi Toyama was a retainer of the Tokugawa Shogunate and subsequently became a commissioner. When the Russian envoy Lezanov came to Nagasaki (1804) bringing with him some shipwrecked Japanese, and asked for permission to trade with Japan, Kagemichi as a superintendent officer in cooperation with Commissioner Bungo-no-Kami Hida asked him to return later, promising to look into the matter. The Russians then approached him and Commissioner Awaji-noKami Muragaki at Hokkaido (1807). He was commissioner of Nagasaki (1809) and accountant officer. He was a brilliant scholar and ranked with Nampo ota in learning.
