Career
Kagenori Nire came into prominence in the naval engagement fought between his clan and a British fleet. He was defeated in 1863.
Kagenori Nire entered the Ministry of Navy in 1868. He was Commandant of the Imperial Japanese Naval Academy from 1878 to 1880. In 1885 he was promoted vice-admiral, to admiral in 1892 to become Privy Counselor with the title of Viscount. He served as Naval Minister From 8 August 1892 to 11 March 1893.
