Career
Before the Moiji Restoration (1868) he made a fortune by retailing beef at Motomachi, Yokohama, and also dealt in Western dry goods. In 1870, he set up an ice factory at Hakodate, Hokkaido, and shipped the product to Yokohama and made great profits.
