Kai Harada was born in 1619, in Japan. His name was Munesuke.
He started the well-known Date Sodo, or trouble in the Date family, the Daimyo in Sendai. He received a fief of 8,000 koku of rice a year from his lord. He assisted Munekatsu Date, a relative of Lord Tsunamune Date of Sendai, in his plan to usurp the Daimyo title. He induced his lord to lead a dissipated life and kept him in confinement by reason of his dissipation. Munekatsu and Harada made Kamechiyc, the infant son of Lord Tsunamune, the Lord of Sendai and they wielded power. They also tried to poison the infant lord. Muneshige Date, an old retainer, reported this to the Shogunate government in Edo (1671). Confronted by Muneshige at an order of the Shogunate, Harada could not clear himself of the charges levelled against him. Harada, in desperation, drew his sword and killed Muneshige but he was also killed on the spot.
