Sada Kaiseki was born in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1818.
He went to Kyoto at the age of 17 to study Buddhism.
Kaiseki Sada developed a full-fledged program against early Meiji modernization, based on the revitalization and updating of Buddhist teachings about geography and astronomy, on the development of an riginal economic programme, and on public and poliical activism.
As an economist, he advocated use of domestic products in preference to imported products. His opinions, however, were largely emotional.
