Kamal Kumar Jain is an Indian computer scientist and researcher whose career has included advanced computing research, engineering, management, and site leadership. He earned degrees from Meerut University and the Indian Institute of Science and received the Hassaram Rijhumal Bapu Seetharam Medal in 1991.
Background
Kamal Kumar Jain was born on May 1, 1967, in Muzaffarnagar, India, to Shyam Lal and Kusum Jain. His early life and education developed within India's expanding scientific and technical environment, which increasingly connected university training with national computing and electronics research.
Education
Jain received a Bachelor of Science degree from Meerut University in 1985. The university, established in 1965 in western Uttar Pradesh, served as a regional center for higher education and scientific instruction.
He continued at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, receiving a Master of Engineering degree in 1990 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1994. Founded in 1909, the institute is India's leading research-oriented institution in science and engineering, with a long tradition of advanced laboratory-based study.
Career
Jain began his professional career as a member of the technical staff at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing in Bangalore from 1993 to 1994. C-DAC was established in the late 1980s as a national research and development organization focused on advanced information technology, including high-performance computing and indigenous computing systems.
From 1994 to 1998, Jain worked for Temic Usha Ltd. in Gurgaon. He first served as a senior engineer, became a principal engineer in 1995, advanced to manager later that year, and served as deputy director from 1996 to 1998. These positions marked a progression from engineering work to technical and organizational leadership in the electronics and technology sector.
Beginning in 1998, Jain became site manager at Motorola India Ltd. in Gurgaon. Motorola was a major international telecommunications and electronics company whose Indian operations formed part of the country's growing technology and communications industry. Jain's career has therefore extended from publicly supported computing research into industrial engineering, management, and telecommunications technology.
Membership
Jain is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the IEEE Computer Society. IEEE is a major international professional organization for electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, and related technologies, while the IEEE Computer Society focuses specifically on computing research, practice, education, and professional standards.
