Kamegiku was originally a dancing girl at Kyoto, who attracted the fancy of ex-Emperor Gotoba. When she became his mistress he presented her with the territory of Set-tsu (Hyogo Prefecture), which was vehemently opposed by Jito, the Lord of a manor. Yoshitoki Hjo was appointed to intercede, but his decision did not favor the ex-Emperor. This is said to be one of the causes that led to the battle of Jkyu (1221)
