Kamejo was born in 1750. She was the daughter of Tokujo, a proprietor of a metal foundry in Nagasaki.
Kamejo learned about the business from her father and after his death stepped into his shoes.
Kamejo came to be known as quite a character in the vicinity, and freely indulged in sake and other alcoholic beverages. It is said that every time she received an order she would invite her friends and celebrate the occasion with an orgy of wine. In spite of this she was a very skillful craftsman and many of her works can be seen at the Tokyo Arts University and the Tokyo Museum.
