Career
Left his native place after a period of dissipation and lived at the home of a relative in Kawachi (Osaka Prefecture). Became a disciple of Shozo Namiki I, a Kabuki playwright. His position as a playwright was established around 1773 when he wrote for leading theaters in Osaka. He called himself Eichodo from 1784 and is said to have died a short while later. Altogether he wrote about 70 plays. He and his master, Namiki, are regarded as first genuine Kabuki playwrights.
Many of his plays were preserved to posterity, including "Hadekurabe Ise Monogatari" and "Igagoe Norigake Kappa".
