Career
Kan-emon made his debut at the Kabukiza theater in Tokyo under the name of Umenosuke in 1912). Succeeded to the name of Kan-emon in 1921. He established with Chojuro Kawarazaki, another young Kabuki actor, the Zenshinza Theater Company, which staged Kabuki as well as modern plays and motion pictures. After World War II, the entire company joined the Communist Party.
