Mr. Ling engaged in early life in educational work for a period of ten years, being promoter of a well-known primary school, affiliated with the Chiao-tung University in Shanghai, China.
Kang-hou Ling held important positions subsequently in political and business circles, including the posts of general manager of the Sin Wah Banking Corporation and the Exchange Bank of China, counsellor to the Government of the Greater Shanghai Municipality, and member of the Executive Committee of the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce.
Then he became a secretary-general of the Shanghai Bankers' Assocaition, member and Executive Secretary of the China National Loans Sinking Fund Commission, member of the Board of Supervisors of the Central Bank of China, president of the Associated-Chambers of Commerce of China, secretary-general of the China National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce, member of both the Works and the Chinese Primary Schools Committees of the Municipal, Council of the International Settlement of Shanghai.
Mr. Ling was prominent to educational, social and philanthropical work in Shanghai, being a director of a number of universities, hospitals and charitable institutions.
