Career
Was active in national affairs toward the end of Tokugawa Shogunate. After the Meiji Restoration (1868), worked for the revival of painting. Appointed Court Artist (1890). Strove for the popularization of Maruyama school of painting.
Connections
Married the daughter of Tetsuzan Mori, painter of Maruyama School, and then studied under him.
