Background
Karelyn Mandy Warnford-Davis was born in June 1954. Official company records give her forenames as Karelyn Mandy, and she is also known as Mandy Warnford-Davis, the name used in a published alumni history of Mayer Brown's London office, the successor of the firm where she practised as a partner.
Education
She received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oxford, a degree her biographical record gives with the abbreviation Oxon. Oxford is one of the oldest universities in the English-speaking world, and its collegiate system means that students belong both to the central university and to an individual college.
The university's long tradition of legal and classical education has produced many of England's barristers and solicitors, although the specific course she followed is not documented.
Career
Karelyn Mandy Warnford-Davis's principal documented legal association was with Rowe & Maw, a London law firm founded in 1895 and known for corporate, construction, pension, insurance, property, and employment work. She worked there as a partner. In 2002 the firm merged with the Chicago-based Mayer, Brown & Platt to form Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw, and her recollections of the London office appear in an alumni publication about the firm's history in the City of London.
She was admitted as a solicitor in England on 2 April 1979, according to the register of the Solicitors Regulation Authority. The SRA regulates solicitors and law firms in England and Wales, and all solicitors must be admitted to the roll of solicitors before practising. The SRA was established in 2007 as an independent regulatory arm of the Law Society of England and Wales, which had traditionally carried out both regulatory and representative functions.
From 1995 to 1999 she was a director of Hachette UK Limited, the British subsidiary of the French publisher Hachette, which was known as Hachette UK. From August 1998 to September 1999 she also served as a director of Hachette UK Distribution Limited, a company incorporated in April 1998 under a different name. That company later became part of Hachette UK as its distribution division, which is now the leading book distribution company in the United Kingdom. Companies House records show that she was a solicitor when she held these appointments.
