Karin has worked as a DJ, a house painter, a nude model, a gymnastics coach, and a licensed private investigator. Her first writting - Sleeping with Random Beasts. Sleeping with Random Beasts met with mixed critical responses. A Publishers Weekly reviewer noted that “by the time one character advises, ‘Have some backbone!’ You’re not thirteen anymore,’ the reader has already been there, thought that.” On the other hand, Booklist contributor Ted Leventhal speculated that “perhaps a sign of Beasts' success is the reader’s constant desire to give Bean a kick in the butt and tell her to get a job.” Barbara Maslekoff concluded in a Library Journal appraisal that “Goodwin’s first novel is so real that it sometimes sounds like talking out loud.”
