( A sea-borne adventure filled with cannon smoke, whistli...)
A sea-borne adventure filled with cannon smoke, whistling musket shot and the ring of steel-on-steel. When the young captain, Toby Heath, accepts a commission as a privateer, he finds that there is more to the appointment than chasing pirates. He encounters a den of smugglers, meets a head-strong girl and rediscovers a vengeful enemy still on his trail. Mr. Heffelfinger shows a strong grasp of all things nautical and the vagaries of the sea. His descriptive powers are superb... Jeanette Cottrell, eBook Reviews weekly ...masterful storytelling of darkly beautiful heroes and vile villians. The dialogue really stood out for me...I could almost hear the voices. Fantastic job! Libby Cudmore, author of "Always the Bride" I'm talking about richness of story, of raising the standard, of writing your absolute best...Don't think historical fiction can reach this richness? (For many during the 18th century, life was a cruel hardsh...)
For many during the 18th century, life was a cruel hardship. Some men sought easy wealth and didn’t care how they got it. Ned Loe was one of them. During an altercation at the Bay of Honduras, Loe forces Keil Hermann, a ship’s carpenter, to join him and leave his heartbroken woman behind. Loe begins his piratical career of murder and plunder across the Caribbean and along the coast of the new colonies. Meanwhile, Moira, pining for her man, cuts her hair, dresses in her son’s clothing and signs aboard an English man-of-war to search for Hermann. Loe runs rampant with the man-of-war in pursuit. Hermann manages his escape but is jailed as a pirate.
