Career
He was awarded the Knight"s Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World World War World War II At the start of the Second World War, he was a Hauptmann (Captain) in the German Heer (Army) and the commander of an artillery battery in the 912th Sturmgeschütz (Assault Gun, StuG) Battalion. In 1943 he was wounded on the Eastern Front and after recovering from his wounds, he was assigned to serve as an adviser to the 11th Steamship Sturmgeschütz Battalion Nordland (11th Steamship Volunteer Panzergrenadier Division Nordland). In January 1944, he was appointed to serve as the commander of the battalion after its commander was killed in action.
In November 1944, he was promoted to the rank of Sturmbannführer (Major).
He was awarded the Knight"s Cross after the conclusion of the war, on 9 May 1945. Karlheinz Schulz Streeck survived the war and died on 1 September 1978 in West Germany.
