Kasho Takabatake was born on April 6, 1888 in Uwajima City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan.
He studied at Kyoto Art and Crafts School, and at Kansai Bjutsu-in (art school). Coming to Tokyo, he became a pupil of Kogyo Terazaki.
In Tokyo he became an illustrator which was his desire from boyhood. His unique sentimental style gained great popularity from the Taisho to Showa eras. He was also a popular writer.
