Katei Taki

Background

Taki Katei was born on January 27, 1830 in Tokyo, Japan.

Education

He studied Chinese painting under Umpo Ooka, and later under Tetsuo in Nagasaki.

Career

In 1854 Taki served the Shogunate for awhile but resigned to exhibit his works throughout the provinces. He won many awards and prizes, and was appointed artist to the Imperial Court in 1893.
