Katharine received a Bachelor of Arts from Trent University in 1974.
Together with her husband Katarine Fletcher is an owner of Chesley House Publications since 1979. They both share a keen love of adventure and nature, and travel often and as extensively as possible. They believe that sustainable tourism - which promotes and supports local communities and which is environmentally responsible - is a key. Katharine is chair of sustainable tourism for the Canadian Chapter of the Society of American Travel Writers. In this capacity, she seeks to live and travel as much as possible.
In 1988, Katharine's self-published book, Historical Walks: The Gatineau Park Story launched her career as a professional writer. And, when The Globe Pequot Press invited her to write the first edition of this book in 1999, her husband became co-author. Today, they write articles, books, and contribute to many anthologies. The couple offer self-published workshops and their course Publish Yourself: The Basics of Self-publishing, is popular. Katharine also leads custom hikes, bus tours, and both lectures and gives slide shows on Canada's National Capital Region, and is frequently interviewed on television and radio stations.
