Career
She had two children, Karen and Susanna. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Swarthmore College in 1938. Her interests include ornithology, mountain climbing, reading and music (she played piano and cello).
After graduating from college, Scherman worked as a secretary for the Sunday Review of Literature in New York City from 1940-1941, while also working as an editor for J. B. Lippincott & Company during the same period.
From 1941 to 1944 she worked at Life as a researcher and writer She authored ten books, the first in 1954 and the last in.
