K. Laurence Stapleton was a professor of English at Bryn Mawr College. For 46 years she taught poetry, creative writing, literary criticism and political science. She also wrote six books of poetry, criticism and political thought. Her bachelor's degree was from Smith College and she did graduate work at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She was known as Laurence, a family name, and died in 1998 at the age of 86.
