Lathrop was credited with seminal research on the biological effects of radiation, and the invention of radiotracers, including Iodine-125, Palladium-103, and Technetium-99m. She was but one representative of Women in Science Technology Engineering And Mathematics fields. She had 10 grandchildren at the time of her death.
