Kathleen Daly was born in London but spent her childhood on the island of Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean, and in France and Scotland.
Kathleen N. Daly studied at the University of Glasgow where she received a Master of Arts degree in 1951.
Kathleen Daly started her career as a children’s book editor at Blackie & Son. In 1953 she took up the position at the Artists & Writers Press in New York City. She edited children’s books for publishers in the United States and England and also began to write her own books for children. Many of her books are about plants and animals, for example, My Elephant Book and A Little Golden Book About the Seashore. She also wrote two encyclopedias about Norse mythology and Greek and Roman mythology. Each contains some four hundred alphabetical entries, including gods and goddesses, giants, heroes and heroines, monsters, terminology, cultural concepts, and places, as well as literary sources.
