Morgan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Zoology from the University of California, Berkeley in 1964. Fourteen years later she earned her Master of Science degree in Development Biology from the University of Chicago. In 1984, she was given a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biology from Johns Hopkins University.
Morgan began her career as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Environment Health Science in 1984. Three years later she took a position of an associate professor at Rutgers University. Then in 1991, Kathleen became a freelance copy editor for Current Protocols. Also she served as copy editor for Current Protocols in 1993-1995. In 1996 Morgan began working as an editor for John Wiley & Sons. In addition, she taught at Raritan Valley Community College, William Paterson University and North Carolina State University.
Morgan was a member of the American Society of Cell Biology and Society of Development Biology.
On June 8, 1963 Kathleen Morgan married Peter Jay Huck, with whom she divorced in 1983. They have two children. On August 12, 1988 she married Charles Albert Lunn.
