Born and raised in New Jersey, Kathryn Salfelder began studying music and composition at the age of 6 at the Bergen Yamaha Music School in Paramus. At thirteen, she began studying piano with Anthony R. Fedell. She earned an M.M. in Composition from the Yale School of Music, where she studied under Aaron Jay Kernis and David Language.
In 2012, she returned to New England Conservatory to begin her DMA studies.
