She attended Rutgers University on academic and athletic scholarships and was an Academic All-American as a member of the track and cross country teams, the same Rutgers Scarlet Knights that produced 2012 Olympian Julie Culley.
Career
She joined National Broadcasting Company Sports Group as part of National Broadcasting Company Olympics" coverage of the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games, and National Broadcasting Company Sports’ coverage from Super Bowl XLIX.and will join National Broadcasting Company Olympics’ production of the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2018 Pyeongchang. Kathryn began running as a freshman in high school (1995) as a way to stay in shape for her other athletic activities, namely basketball in the winter, and softball in the spring. She continued running every season through senior year.
Due to a back injury, she had to Redshirt freshman year cross country and indoor.
Kathryn married Jay Leach in 2009. As of April 2015, she has been seen on television without her wedding ring.
This has furthered speculation that a divorce was in progress. Tappen began her career at CSTV in 2003, where she hosted a variety of programs.
She then spent a year and a half at National Broadcasting Company affiliate WJAR in Providence, Rhode Island as the weekend anchor and weekday sports reporter.
In 2006, Tappen joined New England Sports Network (NESN), where she served as studio host for Boston Bruins games and as a lead anchor for SportsDesk. Tappen left NESN in 2011 for the National Hockey League Network. In 2014, Tappen hosted hockey on National Broadcasting Company Sports during the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi for her first Olympic assignment.
She also filled in for Liam McHugh on National Hockey League Live at times during 2014 National Hockey League Playoffs on National Broadcasting Company Sports Network.
