Katie Geneva Cannon is a Christian theologian and ethicist associated with womanist theology and black liberation theology.
Education
She received a bachelor"s degree from Barber-Scotia College, a master"s of divinity degree from Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary in Atlanta, and Master of Philisophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Union Theological Seminary in New New York
Career
Cannon spent her childhood in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Previously Cannon has served on the faculties of Temple University, Episcopal Divinity School, and Harvard Divinity School. From 2004 to 2008, she served as president of the Society for the Study of Black Religion.
The American Academy of Religion honored Cannon with its 2011 Excellence in Teaching Award.
Her mother, Corine L. Cannon, was the first woman to work at the Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
