Born in Manchester, Katie graduated the University of Salford with a degree in English and Creative Writing, before qualifying as an NCTJ certified journalist after studying at News Associates, Manchester.

During her time in further education, Katie volunteered at various radio stations including North Manchester FM, Tameside Radio and British Broadcasting Corporation Radio Manchester, wrote for student newspapers and worked in I.T and Communications for Pennine Care - an National Health Service Mental Health Trust. After completing British Broadcasting Corporation work experience, Katie was offered a place on a British Broadcasting Corporation Talent Pool scheme and consequently secured contracts with British Broadcasting Corporation Audio and Music Production, before joining the Children"s department at British Broadcasting Corporation North at MediaCityUK, first as a personal assistant to the controllers of CBBC and CBeebies, and then as a researcher for CBeebies Radio. lieutenant was whilst working in the department that CBBC controller Cheryl Taylor suggested Katie audition to be a presenter.
Katie joined the CBBC presenting team in January 2013, part-time, and full-time from April 2013, and presents both pre-recorded and live continuity links from the CBBC Office, mainly on mornings and weekends, alongside Dodge T. Dog, Hacker T. Dog and Chris Johnson.
Katie states on her CBBC profile page that she aspired to be a writer ‘like J. K. Rowling or Jacqueline Wilson’ when she was growing up. Katie regularly writes for online magazine Manchester Gossip and writes some of her own scripts for CBBC. Katie is an advocate for encouraging children to get reading and hosts a book club on the CBBC website.
In October 2013 it was announced that Katie would judge the 2014 Blue Peter Book Awards, alongside author Marcus Sedgwick and Director of World Book Day, Kirsten Grant. Alongside presenting in the CBBC Office and for CBBC Extra, CBBC"s red button service, Katie has appeared on and presented for CBBC shows such as Who Let the Dogs Out?, Blue Peter, Jedward"s Big Adventure, All Over the Place Australia, Appsolute Genius and Sam and Mark"s Big Friday Wind-Up.
On the 7th of November 2014 Katie switched on the Manchester Christmas lights with Key 103.
On the 23rd of December 2014 Katie came second on an episode of Celebrity Mastermind. She raised money for the charity Formatting Objects Processor Friends.
