She is best known for her online entertainment series, "Katie Chats" which she began in 2012. She began performing in community theatre, and was an on campus reporter for the television station of Queen"s University. After graduating from university, Uhlmann became an actor and entertainment reporter, in Toronto, finding roles in such films as Kingdom Come and Saving Prosperity.
She has appeared in many television shows, indie films and commercials.
In May 2013 she was nominated for the Toronto Arts Council Emerging Artist Award. She was awarded the Truly Independent Award 2015, by the Hamilton Film Festival.
The award was awarded to Katie and her mother, Joanne Uhlmann, for their Katie Chats interview coverage and their social media promotion, which "boosted the profile of the festival" and "celebrated our filmmakers like no other news reporters in Canada.".
In interviewing so many members of the Canadian entertainment community, he goal is to develop a resource for students of the Canadian entertainment community and industry, stating that, she has set out to create the largest database of interviews with Canadian talent in the world.
