He graduated from the University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in electrical and electronics engineering and obtained Masters in Defence Studies (Myelodysplastic Syndromes ) from National University, Bangladesh. Among the many courses Hassan has attended, they include Course in Weapon Engineering from Royal Naval Engineering College, Manadon, United Kingdom in 1986, Command and Staff Course from Distinguished Service Cross &South Carolina Mirpur, Dhaka in 1993 and National Defence Course from National Defence College, Mirpur, Dhaka in 2007.
Career
He joined Bangladesh Navy at the age of 18 and received a commission on 5 May 1982. Throughout his long naval service, Hassan has successfully carried out his duties in various sectors in Bangladesh Navy. His career establishments contain serving as the Director of Naval Weapons & Electrical Engineering at Naval Headquarters, Director of Naval Training, Commanding Officer of BNS Shaheed Moazzam and BN Dockyard, Head of Department on board BN Ships and in Command of Naval Base and Formation.
He served as the Commodore Superintendent Dockyard from 4 October 2011 until 8 August 2015.
Hassan is a widely travelled person. In course of duties and pursuing naval training he visited several countries of the world, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, China, Pakistan, India, Netherlands, Turkey, Georgia, et cetera
