Studied at the Hakuba Institute under Kiyoteru Kuroda and then graduated from Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts (1921). Later proceeded to France for further studies (1923-27).
Returning home from France, his works were highly appreciated when exhibited at Imperial Academy of Art (1928-30). Later he became a judge of the Academy.
