Matriculation from Budha Inter college, Kushinagar (1959) and Intermediate from Udit Narayan Kshatriya Inter college, Padrauna, UP, India (1961), M.Sc. from Gorakhpur University(1966) and PhD from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (1973).
Prof. Shukla has about 50 years of teaching and research experience. He joined Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC), Trivandrum as a Scientist in 1974and continued in various capacities till his superannuation in July, 2005where he conducted R&D in thermal management of payload environment. He was a Professor in the School of Mechanical Sciences of the Karunya University, Coimbatore during September 2005-May 2009. He was Director of Gurgaon College of Engineering, Gurgaon for 2009-2010 . In 1978, he was awarded Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship to carry out post doctoral research on Variable Conductance Heat Pipe at the Institute for Nuclear Energy and Energy systems of the University of Stuttgart, Germany. He further visited the Technical University of Munich in 1985, University of Stuttgart in 1997 and 2010; Technical University of Darmstadt in 2006 and University of Erlangen in 2015 on the invitation from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
Prof. Shukla’s research has centered on Mathematical Modelling, Analysis and Simulation of Aerospace Systems, Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer, Diffusion and Reaction, Nanofluids and Numerical Methods. He has guided PhD thesis of Kerala University(Department of mathematics) on Numerical Characterization and computer simulation of Heat transfer in solid rocket nozzles, and several M Tech thesis of the technical University of Munich and Kerala University. He teaches Systems Modeling and Simulation, Computational Mathematics, Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics for postgraduate students in Engineering.
Prof. Shukla authored Mathematical Principles of Heat Transfer, Begell House Inc. (2005) and Diffusion Processes during Drying of solids, World Scientific, (1990) , Surya Sidhanta (Hindi), 2015and has 70papers published in archival journals and conference proceedings.
He was a Convener of the Indo-German Cooperative Research Program on Heat Transfer in Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Trivandrum with collaboration from Technical University of Munich during 1991-1994. He organised a Indo-German conference on Heat Transfer in ISRO with collaboration from IISc. Bangalore and Technical University of Munich in 1993 and International conference of advances in Heat Transfer in Karunya University, Coimbatorein 2006
