Keisuke Tanimura was born in 1853 in Miyazaki, Japan.
Keisuke Tanimura began soldiering at an early stage and from the ranks. He distinguished himself as a courageous soldier during the Seinan Affair (the rebellion of Takamori Saigo) in 1877 when he volunteered to sneak into the Kumamoto Castle while it was besieged by the enemy to bring the governor news that relief was on the way. Disguising himself he accomplished his mission. He was later shot to death in the Battle of Tawarazaka.
