The firm was founded by Colonel T. M. Burkett in 1867. Colonel Burkett"s practice was continued by his nephew, White Burkett Miller, admitted to the Bar in 1889.
Mr. Miller"s sons, Burkett and Vaughn Miller, the latter having served as law secretary to Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes on the United States.
Supreme Court, continued their father"s practice. F. Linton Martin and H. James Hitching, graduates of Columbia Law School joined the firm in 1923 and 1944.
The firm today enjoys the distinction of being Chattanooga"s oldest and largest law firm.
