Mr. Ohmae was born in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan, on February 21, 1943.
Kenichi Ohmae finished his studies at Waseda University, obtaining his Bachelor of Science (applied chemistry) in 1965. In 1967 he became a graduate of Tokyo Institute of Technology with Master of Science (nuclear engineering). In 1970 he earned Doctor of Philosophy (nuclear energy) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Mr. Ohmae worked as a senior design engineer for Hitachi, Ltd., from 1970 to 1972. In 1972 he became managing director McKinsey & Co in Tokyo, manager of Tokyo office, 1979-1989, director, 1981-1994.
Kenichi Ohmae established a socio-political movement "Reform of Heisei" in 1992. Later, in 1995 he ran for Governor of Tokyo, but unsuccessfully. Kenichi Ohmae served as a managing director of Ohmae & Associates and Heisei Research Institute since 1994.
He has been a dean and professor at a number of universities around the world, including Isshingjuku and Entrepreneurs School. Mr. Ohmae has written a number of books devoted to business and socio-political analyses. He is founder and Managing Director of Ohmae & Associates, Jasdic Park, EveryD.com, Inc., Business Breakthrough and Ohmae Business Developments, Inc.
In 1997 he went to the United States, where he was appointed Dean and Professor of UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. In 1997 to 1998, he became a Guest professor of Stanford Graduate School of Business, MBA Program.
In 2011, Kenichi Ohmae became a Project director for Team "H2O", and coordinated in preparing the report "What should we learn from the severe accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant?" and submitted it to Goshi Hosono, the Minister of Environment & Minister for the Restoration of Nuclear Accident. In 2012, he became a member of The "Nuclear Reform Monitoring Committee" of Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO).
Besides, Kenichi Ohmae has written a number of books.
Kenichi Ohmae has published over 200 books and contributed articles to many famous publications. In 2005 he set up Kenichi Ohmae Graduate School of Business of BBT University. The Economist put him on the list of Top 5 management gurus of the world. He is the author of 3C's model (strategic triangle of 3 C's: Customer, Competitors, Corporation).
His special area of expertise is formulating creative strategies and developing the organizational concepts to implement them both for private and public sectors. Some of Japan’s most famous and internationally successful companies continue to seek his help in shaping their competitive strategies.
