Kenneth John Conant was born on June 28, 1894 in Neenah, Wisconsin, United States. Son of John Franklin and Lucie Ell (Micklesen) Conant.
Kenneth spent his entire academic carrier at Harvard University, he started as an undergraduate in 1915, then he was appointed as an instructor in 1920. He went on to earn his doctorate in 1925 and was appointed as professor in 1936. He retired from his academic position in 1955
Conant has held many positions in his career at Harvard. As an architectural draftsman and instructor from 1920-1923, an associate professor/ later assistant from 1923-1936 and finally as a professor from 1936 to 1955.
Other work was as a Research associate in archaeology, excavating the abbey of Cluny, France, for Medieval Academy American.
He wrote a significant number of monographs, mostly about his work at Cluny. Les Eglises et la Maison du Chef d’Ordre (1968) was widely acclaimed.
