Kenneth K. Gowen was summoned to the United States Army to serve in Africa and Europe in World War II in 1943-1946. After the war, he worked for International Harvester Co., Memphis, Tennessee, United States as a day work analyst and a design engineer for nearly thirty-five years.
Kenneth K. Gowen began sporadically writing memoirs of his tour of duty in World War II long before the book was published. After an early retirement, he began reviewing these writings to pass the time. With the encouragement of family members, Gowen began seriously researching his memoirs for documentation of locations, battles, and other events while in the European theater of operations. He then became obsessed with the desire to prove that he was capable of authoring a nonfiction book. Book Granddaddy, Tell about the War was released in 1998.

Quotations: “My primary motivation for writing is a desire to pass along my personal experiences, and the experiences of others, as unusual events affected our lives. I am influenced by an inner drive: an overwhelming desire to write. I start with an outline of high points, then fill in the details through the process of research and documentation."
Kenneth K. Gowen married a secretary Dorothy Bennett on December 24, 1948. They had three children: Kenny, Philip, and Timothy.
