(This book assesses the Church of England's actual and pot...)
This book assesses the Church of England's actual and potential impact on English political life through an examination of its internal workings and the attitudes of its leaders. Drawing on a wealth of survey, interview, and documentary evidence, the authors also discuss structural and ideological factors that have limited the Church's influence, and relate shifts in its official positions to the complex interaction of long-term social, political, and theological developments. The result is an unprecedentedly detailed picture of the Anglican Church and a significant but little studied area of English political life.
