(As the year 2000 approaches, people are becoming more cog...)
As the year 2000 approaches, people are becoming more cognizant of their surroundings and interested in effectively relating to others. To be successful in this challenging environment, superior communication skills are essential. The more than 8,000 new, updated, and revised terms in the second edition of this dictionary carry forward our goal to help members of the legal profession fully appreciate and function in the world by providing a source for definitions of terms not easily located in other reference works. Emphasis is placed on modern terminology, including slang and colloquial references, rather than on purely historical concepts. Certain legal terms are occasionally included when they are appropriate to a complete understanding of other defined terms. We designed this revision for all constituents of the legal profession to broaden and enhance their understanding of our constantly changing world. We hope attorneys, judges, professors, students, paralegals, legal secretaries, as well as researchers, will benefit from this reference work. Of course, if you decide to use one of our terms in your legal work, you should, as with any other authority, verify that the definition remains accurate and current.
