Graduated from Tokyo University (1931).
Served at Institut Franco-Japonais (1936) and then became professor of French at Tokyo College of Foreign Languages (1946). A noted scholar of the French language he has translated the works of Andre Gide, letters of Flaubert and works of Maupassant, Chardonne and others.
