Kensuke Okudaira was born in Japan.
A retainer of the Choshu Clan (Yamaguchi Prefecture), he distinguished himself with his valor during the Imperial campaign in northern Japan. He belonged to the Kanjotai Unit of the expeditionary forces. He and Issei Maebara, who were dissatisfied with the new government, rebelled against it in Hagi (1876). The rebellion was suppressed quickly by Imperial troops and he was captured and decapitated.
