Kesavan Raghavan Nair was educated at the University of Madras, where he obtained his Master of Arts (First Class & Gold Medalist) in 1932 and Master of Science (Statistics) degree in 1939. He continued his studies at the University of London , where he was granted Doctor of Philosophy (Statistics) in 1947 and Doctor of Science (Statistics) in 1954.
In 1936-1942 Kesavan Raghavan Nair worked as a Statistician at Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta. In 1942-1944 - Chief Statistician. Also he served as an Assistant Director of Statistics of the Department of Food, Government of India in 1944-1945. In 1947-1955 - Statistician & Officer-in-Charge of Statistical Branch at Forest Research Institute in Dehra Dun. Moreover, Kesavan Raghavan Nair worked as a Chief Research Officer in 1955-1959. Since 1959 - Joint Director at Central Statistical Organisation.
