Kesson Kutsumi began his career as an apprentice to a shopkeeper and then while working as a waiter studied English from an American to graduate as a lawyer (1879). Later joined the editorial staff of Toyo Shimpo and earned a reputation as a progressive critic. Thereafter he was in turn editorial writer for Mancho-ho, chief editor of Nagano Mainichif of Hakodate Mainichi and then of Tokyo Mainichi. Among his works are "The Conflicts of Christianity," "Anarchism" and "Nietzshe."
