Born on 01.01.1965 in Ad Dis ash Sharqiya, Yemen, Khaled Bahah’s career developed amid complex regional and national dynamics. His early engagement in public administration and diplomacy was shaped by Yemen’s evolving political landscape, guiding him towards roles that demanded negotiation and leadership during times of unrest.
Education
Khaled Bahah earned a Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Commerce from Pune University, India, in 1992. His academic background laid the foundation for his later governmental and diplomatic responsibilities.
Career
Bahah held the position of Yemen’s Minister of Oil and Minerals from 2006 to May 2008, overseeing key energy projects including leadership in the Yemen LNG Board and economic committees. In 2009, he became Yemen’s Ambassador to Canada, later serving as Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Amid the 2011 Yemeni revolution, he resigned from the ruling General People’s Congress in protest against government violence but remained active in diplomacy. On 13.10.2014, he was appointed Prime Minister by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, with Houthi approval. Bahah assumed office on 09.11.2014 but resigned along with the president on 22.01.2015 following intensified conflict. After a period of house arrest and exile in Saudi Arabia, he was appointed Vice President on 12.04.2015. He returned to Aden with government ministers on 16.09.2015 as loyalist forces gained ground. Bahah publicly challenged his dismissal from office in 2016, asserting its unconstitutionality, and subsequently served as presidential advisor. In October 2023, he was appointed Yemen’s Ambassador to Egypt.
