He graduated from Tokyo University in 1900.
Career
Kichiji Shimmi was appointed professor at Hiroshima Higher Normal School and then Hiroshima University of Science and Literature.
He resigned to become a researcher at Okura Spiritual Culture (now Okurayama Cultural Science) Research Institute in 1940. Meanwhile he studied in Germany and obtained a doctorate, Doctor of Laws, for his thesis titled "Die Geschichte der Buke-Herrschaft in Japan" in 1916.
Among his works are " A Study of Low Ranking Samurai" and "On Teaching of History."
