An exponent cubism, he had his works accepted by Nikakai Art Society exhibitions. Was awarded a Nikakai Art Society prize (1920) and became a member of that art group (1923). At present, he belongs to the Dai Nikikai Art Society. Although at one time he abandoned oil painting and turned to traditional Japanese water color, he is again painting in oil. Known as an art theoretician. Wrote books including “Henri Matisse the Man.”
