Kimura Toko was born in 1848. She was the daughter of Kozo Taguchi and the elder sister of Ukichi Taguchi.

Kimura Toko was born in 1848. She was the daughter of Kozo Taguchi and the elder sister of Ukichi Taguchi.
When her brother founded a publishing house Kimura Toko worked for him as an accountant and also assisted him in his publishing business, which included Nihon Kaika Shi (Japanese History from the Meiji Renaissance) and the compilation of a Japanese Biographical Dictionary (1879). When her husband founded together with others the Meiji Gins High School Kimura Toko was placed in charge of its supervision.
Kimura Toko married Kumaji Kimura, a retainer of the Shogun, at the age of 16 (1864).
