Kimura Yoshio began taking interest in Shogi at an early age ana was encouraged by Kinjiro Sekine, the 13th Meijin (Grand Champion). Count Yasutoshi Yanagisawa also took interest in the youthful player and helped him acquire the proper technique. Kimura Yoshio was classed in 8th Rank in 1926, and by 1938 had become a Meijm in his own right. Was champion for nine years since then. Was defeated by Masao Tsukada in 1947 but wrested the championship back the following year only to lose it to Oyama. Kimura Yoshio was a Chairman of Taiseikai (chess league).
