Kinhira Saionji was powerful in the Court because of his family connections with the Kamakura Shogunate. His diary called "Kinhira Koki" or "Chikurin-in Safu-ki" is a valuable document because it gives much sidelight on the politics of his age. Was appointed Minister of the Left (1309).
His daughter was the consort of the ex-Emperor Gofushimi.
