Kiochiro Asakai was born in 1906.
In 1929 he graduated from Tokyo University of Commerce and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, assigned to America. Since then, served as secre¬tary to the Japanese deplomatic offices in England and China.
After returning to Japan in 1936, he was appointed to the East Asia Bureau of the Foreign Ministry. Became chief of the 2nd section of the 3rd De¬partment of the Information Bureau of the Ministry in 1940 and chief of the 2nd section of the Foreign Trade Bureau in 1942. Appointed chief of the 2nd sec¬tion of the Wartime Economic Bureau of the Foreign Ministry in 1943 and after the war chief of the General Affairs Section of the Central Liaison Office of the Foreign Ministry in 1946,and its director in 1948. Became director of the Japanese Overseas Office of the Foreign Ministry in London in 1950 and Minister to the United King¬dom in 1952. Durng the post-war period, he served as Japanese representative to various international conferences. He was Ambas-sador to the Philippines in 1956; He was Ambassador to U.S.A. since May 1957.
